Cleft palate is a congenital facial deformity that presents clinically with anterior maxillary hypoplasia, congenitally missing teeth, nasopalatal communication, anterior openbite and a constricted maxillary arch. Aesthetic and functional rehabilitation of cleft palate patient requires the use of a prosthesis that provides adequate support to the lip and reduces the problem of nasal regurgitation. This article describes the fabrication of a removable prosthesis that has been modified anteriorly by providing added thickness to the labial flange so as to increase the lip support. This flange has been hollowed out to reduce the weight of the prosthesis and also provides comfort and ease of use. The palatal plate evades nasal regurgitation and improves speech.

Every human being aspires to look beautiful and will continue to do so even when the odds are against them as they get older. Nowadays almost every edentulous patient demands a lot on the esthetics front, at least with hope for having to overcome their sunken/hollow cheek, for that slight bit of joy having to reminisce their past, when they were young and beautiful. By the use of the maxillary cheek plumpers, some support can be provided to the cheek and thereby the esthetics as well, but having to do so will be at the cost of the discomfort which the patient endures due to its added weight. This article describes the combination of Hollow Denture along with Cheek Plumper techniques, to provide more comfort to the patients, while it being non-invasive & cost-effective for the benefit of all kinds of people, as it is within every person's rights to look wrinkleless & attractive. Clinical Implication: This technique enables the elderly and those with poor manual dexterity by completely removing any effort which needs to be put in as there is no need for attachments & enhancing the facial esthetics while remaining cost-effective. It is a quick non-invasive procedure to provide better esthetics to the discouraged/discomfiture patients, without causing much difficulty in usage on a day to day life.

“…Orthodontic wire enables the easy retrieval of the catheter after the processing of the denture. Gelatin was used as a spacer for maxillary hollow denture by Deogade et al [22] as it was very easily available, was easy to recontour and easy to retrieve by using hot water to flush it through the small opening with help of a syringe. The approach uses a clear thermoplastic template of a trial to facilitate insertion of gelatin that acts as a spacer and to maintain the thickness of the resin over the hollow cavity.…”

Severely resorbed ridges and increased lip length provides challenge to achieve adequate retention, stability and support for the success of complete denture. In such cases Implant supported dentures can be promising alternative to conventional dentures. However, it is not always possible to provide patients with implant treatment as geriatric patients with systemic illness and economic constrains, possess reluctance for a long duration of treatment procedure and unwillingness for any kind of surgical procedure. Hence the best way is to rehabilitate them in conventional way. Light weight hollow dentures can prove to be an effective alternative to conventional denture for achieving optimum results. The aim of this review is to assess the role of maxillary hollow denture in improving the retention and stability in compromised cases based on the data published in the literature.
