An Alternate Method to Springback Compensation for Sheet Metal Forming

Abstract: The aim of this work is to improve the accuracy of cold stamping product by accommodating springback. This is a numerical approach to improve the accuracy of springback analysis and die compensation process combining the displacement adjustment (DA) method and the spring forward (SF) algorithm. This alternate hybrid method (HM) is conducted by firstly employing DA method followed by the SF method instead of either DA or SF method individually. The springback shape and the target part are used to optimize the d… Show more

“…This paper corresponds with the statement that springback phenomenon can currently be accurately analysed and compensated only on parts with a less complex shape. Through literature, most papers agree that various compensation strategies lead to an improvement in the inaccuracy by up to 70-80 % [10][11][12]. Similar but slightly better results have been achieved in the presented experiment.…”

“…Among them, the "Force Descriptor Method (FDM)" [12,13] and "Displacement Adjustment (DA) method" [1] have attracted researchers more attention for its directness and effectiveness. Recently, various methods have been reported based on the DA method or the FDM, such as the Smooth Displacement Adjustment (SDA) method and the Surface Controlled Overbending (SCO) method [14], the Accelerated Compensation (AC) method [15], the Comprehensive Compensation (CC) method [16], the Enhanced Displacement Adjustment (E-DA) method [17], the alternate Hybrid Method (HM) [18], the Discrete Curvature Adjustment (DCA) strategy [19], and the Sheet Elements Compensation (SEC) method [20]. Most of these methods are based on finite element simulation and focused on optimizing the compensation direction by the compensation factor as well as smoothing the plane by the function curve, to improve the compensation speed and convergence.…”

“…described an alternate hybrid method which involved DA (displacement Adjustment ) method followed by SF( spring Forward) method. The springback shape and the target part were used to optimize the die surfaces compensating springback [35].…”
