An Allelopathic Role for Garlic Root Exudates in the Regulation of Carbohydrate Metabolism in Cucumber in a Hydroponic Co-Culture System

Abstract: Garlic is considered to have a strong positive effect on the growth and yield of receptors under soil cultivation conditions. However, how this positive promotion is produced by changing the growth environment of the receptors or directly acting on the receptors is still not very clear. The direct influence of co-culturing with different quantities of garlic plants (the control 5, 10, 15, 20) on the growth and biochemical processes of cucumber plants was studied using a hydroponic co-culture system. Different … Show more

“…The quantitative alteration in chlorophyll and carbohydrates in allelopathic stressed seedlings is dependent on many factors, such as plant species, variety, the sensitivity and tolerance of the recipient species, and the donor species allelochemicals (quantitative and qualitative profile), as well as the age of the seedlings [24,28,64,[68][69][70][71][72].…”

“…Proline is an integral component of cell wall protein formation and an excellent osmotic pressure protective agent ( Sharma and Dietz, 2006 ; Zheng et al, 2020 ). The contents of proline are remarkably increased in cucumber leaves after being treated with garlic root exudates ( Ding et al, 2019 ). However, BA exposure caused a decrease in the L-proline accumulation, indicating a severe destruction of root cells.…”

“…ese results suggest that mulberry extracts caused oxidative stress due to allelopathins. A er use of allelopathic compounds, plant tissues increased the production of reactive oxygen species which caused lipid peroxidation and oxidative damage (Ding et al, 2020). Inhibition of germination is a secondary e ect of allelopathics.…”
