An Algorithm for Real-Time Security Constrained Economic Dispatch

Abstract: The paper presents results from the development and testing of an algorithm for security constrained dispatch calculations wherein closed area MW, line MW and MVA, and line-group MW constraints must be considered to insure system security. An overview of the algorithm and partial results from full-scale benchmark tests using a real-time 1200 bus / 1500 line model and an optimal power flow (OPF) are presented in the body of the paper. Several appendices are included to outline the techniques used in the algorit… Show more

“…Especially, the preventive security dispatch OPF was used for system stability enhancement [4][5][6][7]. Several generation rescheduling strategies for the improvement of transient stability based on energy margin have been proposed where the stability requirement is considered as a constraint for pseudo optimality over a year [8,9].…”

“…Some authors in recent literatures have addressed the real-time OPF (RTOPF) and formulated it as a real-time problem where the proposed algorithm is able to keep track of the optimal operating points of the power system and adjust the control variables in realtime [147]- [150]. However, these references didn't provide a real-time implementation of the OPF in different system scenarios and AC/DC system.…”
