The frequency of occurrence of rudimentary teeth in populations varies with age and with geographic location. A higher proportion of juveniles than adults possesses rudimentary teeth. Populations in the northwestern part of the species' range have the highest frequency of occurrence while those in the southeastern part have the lowest.
