An agent that learns to support users of a Web site

Abstract: The terms agent, intelligent agent and 3D agent are becoming more and more frequently used in literature. A key issue in the web community is that a web site must be equipped with a virtual agent able to support users in a natural way. Following this trend, we decided to implement scenographic agents mimic intelligent reasoning (SAMIR), a prototype of a tool for animating 3D intelligent agents, mainly founded on a genetic algorithms-based learning system, namely an XCS, and on an FFD-based technique for the fa… Show more

“…These agents will analyze the access logs, popularity of documents and keywords, as well as other information collected by search spider and evolutionary links panel and make human-like advices regarding the content and navigation within the websites. It is important that nowadays we are technically capable to implement human-like 'characters' within the context of web interfaces [8] so we are on the path to creation of a new kind of WWW, more user-friendly and intelligent.…”

“…Information and communication technology (ICT), having the Internet and network‐centric computing as its backbone, has laid a firm foundation for experimentation with e‐learning. As a result, the traditional learning paradigms have been stretched through electronic and web technologies into new learning models that are dynamic in nature (Abbattista, Paradiso, Semeraro & Zambetta, 2004; Geyer & Effelsberg, 1997; Houtsonen, Kankaanrinta & Rehven, 2004; Rafaeli, Barak, Dan‐Gur & Toch, 2004). The proliferation of education material on the Internet is progressing in unison with e‐commerce and other information services.…”

“…The user's ratings of pages are used to grow the user's profile adaptively, so that the recommendations gradually become more personalized. Abbattista et al proposed a 3D agent-based intelligent interaction system that can be hosted on a web site to support users in a natural way [2]. The agent classifies users based on information drawn from previous sessions.…”
