An advanced energy management framework to promote energy awareness

Abstract: Increasing energy costs, new environmental legislation, and concerns over energy security are driving efforts to increase industrial energy efficiency across the European Union and the world. Manufacturers are keen to identify the most cost-effective techniques to increase energy efficiency in their factories. To achieve the desired efficiency improvements, energy use should be measured in more detail and in real-time, to derive an awareness of the energy use patterns of every part of the manufacturing system.… Show more

“…These different levels of display options are essential because users need to be able to recognize the energy consumption of their buildings and to analyze and improve their buildings' energy performance at different user interest levels. Some other researchers have examined the benefits of BEMS usage in companies in term of energy efficiency [11][12][13][14][18][19][20][21][22][23]. With those benefits in mind, this study sought to investigate the related factors that are useful to improve user responses from the perspectives of those in management.…”

“…Analysis of historical data allows the processes in the company to be assessed and measures to be developed that positively influence developments in the future. Energy data can be measured, and energy performance derived at different levels within the organization, with appropriate measures being applied at each level [31].…”

“…Utilization index of energy supplied to a system cannot be 100%, thereby obeying the third law of thermodynamics. Energy consumption by industrial systems is rather a form of conversion from its initial form to another [4]. An efficient management of how this transformation takes place in an industrial system is therefore of necessity and it must have continuity in order to be sustainable.…”
