“…The sum of BEPS and SMP is termed as the total EPS (TEPS). The concentration of BEPS was determined by a heat extraction method [26] with the following procedure: (1) 30-mL sludge mixture was put 14 equally into three 15-mL tubes, respectively, one of the tubes was centrifugated at 6000 rpm for 15 min with a subsequent filtration through 0.45 μm microfiber filter paper, and then the supernatant was analyzed for SMP; (2) the pellet in the tube was re-suspended into distilled water and washed for three times, then the sludge was diluted with distilled water to its original volume, and then heated to 80 0 C in a water bath for 30 min; (3) the supernatant collected after a centrifugation was regarded as EPS extraction, and the proteins were measured according to the Bradford method [27] with Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) as standard, and the polysaccharides were determined by the phenol-sulphuric acid method [28] with glucose as standard.…”

“…Multi-wavelength fluorometry was once examined for the on-line monitoring of an AD process [12], and the near infrared spectroscopy in online-monitoring of feeding substrate quality in an AD was also used for the same purpose [13]. Besides, other on-line estimation approaches were verified to be reliable in providing information towards the rapid on-line monitoring of AD processes [14], which could be used as a stand-alone and promising sensor device. However, as for the purpose of on-line monitoring and controlling, the researches performed to date have mainly focused on a single physical and chemical property as an indicator, rather than on a comprehensive index.…”

“…Some interesting works have been studied and published in ref. [27], which presents a type of adaptive observer. This adaptive observer has been used for robust estimation in a particular type of nonlinear systems.…”

“…However, the dilution rate controls the convergence rate when utilizing asymptotic observes. Simultaneous estimating of model parameters and the state of the process can be performed with adaptive observers . Alternatively, using the process model and its known parameters allows the tailoring of nonlinear observers with the nonlinearity of the process accounted for by the algorithm .…”
