An Adaptation Study of Measurement Properties for the Characteristics of Resilience in Sports Team Inventory

Abstract: This multi-study paper reports the translation process and the validity and reliability analysis of the Characteristics of Resilience in Sports Teams Inventory (CREST) for the use of Turkish population. In three related studies, 414 team sports athletes from Turkey were sampled. We adopted Beaton et al.’s (2000) methodology for the translation of self-report measures for cross-cultural adaption studies. The first study provided content validity for an initial item set as the preliminary study. The second study… Show more

“…Higher scores on the 'resilient characteristics' subscale indicated greater team resilience, whereas higher scores on the 'vulnerabilities under pressure' subscale suggested lower team resilience. Previous research has demonstrated evidence for the reliability and validity of data derived from this measure (Decroos et al, 2017;Gorgulu et al, 2018;Kegelaers et al, 2020). In the current study, Cronbach's alpha was .90 for resilient characteristics and .86 for vulnerabilities under pressure.…”

“…Moreover, the reliability coefficient of the Chinese version of CREST and test-retest reliability coefficient with a one-month interval also showed that the scale is reliable. These results were consistent with the original study [2] and the cross-cultural study [36].…”

“…Previous research has demonstrated the positive relationship between team resilience and effort, CD-RISC [2,36]. Our study provides further evidence for the positive correlation between team resilience and individual resilience, and demonstrated that CD-RISC-10 can be used as a tool to assess resilience in team sport, which is consistent with previous studies [2,35,36].…”
