“…6,14,21,22 However, increased utilization rates were not consistent at every center. 23 While some studies have indicated an increase in the use of IABP during our study period, 24,25 we observed the contrary, which can in part be explained by smaller sample size and limited datasets previously reported in other studies. Also, patient selection based on procedure undertaken (high-risk PCI vs. all-comer PCI) and our study period spanning greater than a decade could have potentially contributed to the differences reported.…”

“…There is still no consensus on the ideal time of insertion since the preoperative (prophylactic) insertion of IABP in the high‐risk patients CABG was reported by many studies and the results showed that complications and mortality rate were similar with intraoperative IABP insertion 11,14–16 as in this novel study only including intraoperative IABP patients 17 . Despite the existing information, the proper use of ventricular support in CABG is still controversial.…”

“…Several studies have been reported that the in‐hospital mortality rate after IABP insertion is 7%–50.6% and it depends on the type of heart operation 3–5,7,10–12,15,18,19 . The patients who underwent heart valve surgery the hospital mortality higher compared to the patients who underwent CABG 4,11 .…”

“…Although the new circulatory assist devices were used for circulatory support of patients with acute heart disease, including cardiac surgery patients, benefits of IABP compared with other assistive devices for the management of preoperative or intraoperative low cardiac output syndrome in cardiac surgery is controversial 8 . Preoperative (prophylactic) insertion of IABP in the high‐risk patients due to preoperative acute coronary syndrome (ACS) or unstable CAD patients was reported by many studies and the results showed that complications and mortality rate was similar with intraoperative IABP insertion 9–12 . Addition risk factors have been raised in cardiac surgery patients in the last years and these are advanced age, much major chronic comorbidity, and more patients with poor left ventricle function and end‐stage ischemic heart disease.…”
