“…The hypothesis was that a global measure of brain atrophy would obscure atrophy of specific areas which in turn could be related to less involved areas such as -for example in Alzheimer's dementia -the central motor or sensory strip or the cerebellum. A number of papers published in the past two years were successful with this respect using CT (Willmer et al, 1993) or MRI (Killiany et al, 1993;Cu6nod et al, 1993;Erkinjuntti et al, 1993). Since to quantitatively assess these key areas of early brain atrophy in Alzheimer's disease requires coronal or negative angulation sections for optimal results, the task is best served by MRI.…”
