Amplification of FRS2 in atypical lipomatous tumour/well‐differentiated liposarcoma and de‐differentiated liposarcoma: a clinicopathological and genetic study of 146 cases

Abstract: These findings suggest that FRS2 is amplified consistently in ALT/WDL/DDLs and offer another avenue for the investigation of the biology of this tumour group. MDM2 /FRS2 cases seem to be associated with certain clinicopathological features, and further investigation is needed.

“…Contrary to our findings, a recent study found that FRS2 knockdown promotes tumor progression in two NB cell lines . However, FRS2 is amplified in many cancer types so FRS2 presents typical oncogenic features . Furthermore, the focal amplification of 12q15 region in many cancers, as in primary NB tissues, is correlated with increased mRNA expression of FRS2 , suggesting a functional relevance of the copy number gain.…”

“…A liposarcoma is a malignant mesenchymal tumor that can present as an atypical lipomatous tumor, well-differentiated liposarcoma, dedifferentiated liposarcoma, myxoid liposarcoma, and pleomorphic liposarcoma [ 1 ]. In 1979, Evans suggested that a dedifferentiated liposarcoma was similar to a differentiated adipose sarcoma [ 2 ], which frequently occurs in limbs and the retroperitoneum and is more likely to affect patients aged 40 to 60 years [ 1 , 3 ]. The dedifferentiated tumor is generally well understood but it is very rare; it occurs in less than 5% of well-differentiated liposarcomas and rare tissue types [ 4 ].…”
