“…As species extinction rates are increasing faster than we can assess species, we strongly suggest a review of the MER, with the goal of making it easier to assess species, with independency among criteria due to information gaps, and with the use of information which is significant for conservation purposes. This is evident for species like the Habromys mice which inhabit in the most threatened ecosystem in Mexico, the cloud forest (CONABIO, 2010;CONABIO, 2014;Lamoreux, McKnight & Cabrera, 2015), a fact which by itself should be enough to enlist and protect them, despite the complexity that the current MER assessments implicate. …”

“…No salamander was found in the adjacent forest during the day. In addition, a single individual was found during a conservation assessment in April 2009 (Lamoreux, McKnight & Cabrera Hernandez, 2015). Thorius minutissimus has not been found sympatric with any other plethodontid species, although Bolitoglossa zapoteca is known from near the type locality.…”

“…Along with the states of Tabasco, Veracruz, and Oaxaca, Chiapas is the worst state in Mexico for the adequacy of its drinking water system and infrastructure, and more than 50% of its population is rural (Conagua, 2015;Tardanico & Rosenberg, 2000). The water infrastructure appears to quite poor in Chiapas, but the situation is made worse by the fact that, historically, the federal commission overseeing the creation of new pipelines has looked for new watersheds instead of conserving and protecting existing ones or investing in practices that might improve efficiency of use (Lamoreux, McKnight, & Cabrera Hernandez, 2015). Chiapas is a poor state and its water resource management reflects this.…”
