Ximenia americana: Chemical and Spectral Studies of Extracts of Seeds. Analysis of Trimethylsilyl Derivatives by Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry

Abstract: Among the numerous botanical species found in the Brazilian plant biome, Ximenia americana is widespread in the Northeast of Brazil, especially in the state of Ceará, where it is known as bush plum. Its bark, leaves and roots are used in popular medicine for the treatment of skin infections, hemorrhoids, stomach ulcers, gastric pain, among others. In this work, hexane and ethanolic extracts of X. americana seeds were subjected to silylation reactions followed by analysis of the silylated derivatives by gas chr… Show more

“…Silylation-derivatized saccharides and their fragmentation patterns have been analyzed using GC-MS [ 22 , 23 ] and GC-MS/MS [ 24 ] in previous studies. Compared to the analytical results of saccharides in food samples using GC-MS/MS [ 24 ], the detection limits were lower in this study, as shown in Appendix B .…”

“…Thus, it can explain the traditional basis for using this plant in the treatment of various diseases such as infectious, microbial, and cardiovascular diseases (Kiessoun et al, 2018). Oil from the seeds of X. americana, possibly as a human or animal nutraceutical ingredient (Silva et al, 2016), the leaves of X. americana has anthelmintic properties (Shettar & Vedamurthy, 2017). X. americana plant parts such as leaves, roots, bark, fruit are used for the treatment of diabetes, ulcers, cancer, malaria, fever, diarrhea, and inflammation (Siddaiah et al, 2011).…”
