In-Vitro Antiproliferative Analysis of Metformin Hydrochloride on Androgen-Sensitive, LNCAP and Androgen-Insensitive, PC-3 Human Prostate Cancer Cell Lines

Abstract: Prostate cancer is one of the diseases worldwide that causes cancer-related deaths in men. Metformin is an antidiabetic drug that has been in use for over two decades for the treatment of Type II Diabetes mellitus (DM2). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the anti-proliferative property of metformin hydrochloride on androgen-sensitive, LNCAP and androgen-insensitive, PC-3 human prostate cancer cell lines at different concentrations (µM and mM) using 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium b… Show more

“…These two cell lines have been routinely used in drug screening due to differences in the mechanisms underlying their growth and survival, drug efflux, and so on. 16 Initially, both 1 and 3 were tested against PC3 and LNCaP cells at a series of concentrations. The PC3 cell density was not impacted by incarnatapeptin A (1) or B (3) at 30 μM, whereas the density of LNCaP cells appeared to be impacted by 3 at 30 μM at 24 h (Figure S51).…”

“…PC3 cells are neuroendocrine cells that are insensitive to androgen, do not express a functional androgen receptor or PSA, and have a deleted p53 gene. These two cell lines have been routinely used in drug screening due to differences in the mechanisms underlying their growth and survival, drug efflux, and so on . Initially, both 1 and 3 were tested against PC3 and LNCaP cells at a series of concentrations.…”
