Amotosalen-inactivated fresh frozen plasma is comparable to solvent-detergent inactivated plasma to treat thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura

Abstract: Background: Therapeutic Plasma Exchange (TPE) is the primary therapy of immune-mediated Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (iTTP). Efficacy and safety data for TPE of iTTP have been assessed with Quarantine and Solvent-Detergent inactivated (SD) plasma. Here, amotosalen-UVA pathogen inactivated (AI) plasma, also in routine use, was evaluated in iTTP. Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of iTTP cases prospectively reported to the French national registry (2010)(2011)(2012)(2013). Cases reviewed underw… Show more

“…Notably, ISTH TTP guidelines do not recommend the use of FVIII concentrate for most patients with cTTP in remission because of lacking clear evidence about the variability of ADAMTS13 concentrations across various FVIII concentrate products with intermediate purity [35]. Solvent-detergent-inactivated and amotosalen-UVA pathogen-inactivated FFP can reduce severe allergic reactions [42][43][44]. However, these manipulated plasma products are not available in some countries.…”
