Ammonia Volatilization from Flooded Soil Systems: A Computer Model. I. Theoretical Aspects

Abstract: Ammonia volatilization from flooded rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a major mechanism for N loss and poor fertilizer use efficiency. Ammonia volatilization is influenced by five primary factors: NH4‐N concentration, pH, temperature, depth of floodwater, and wind speed. This NH3‐volatilization model is based on chemical and volatilization aspects. The chemical aspects of the model deal with the NH4/NH3(aq) equilibrium in floodwater. Ammonium ions undergo dissociation with a first‐order rate constant, while NH3(aq) an… Show more

“…The average relative errors between the measured and calculated ammonia volatilization fluxes were only 12.4 %, indicating that the model adequately predicted the ammonia volatilization flux of the rice season. Jayaweera and Mikkelsen (1990) also investigated that the ammonia volatilization process from paddy field was directly influenced by NH 4 ? -N concentration, pH, water temperature, floodwater depth and wind speed, and model of ammonia volatilization flux was determined by chemical kinetics using the five factors.…”

“…Esta teoria tem sido utilizada na modelagem de sistemas contendo solo (Jayaweera, 1990;Wang, 2010), e possui duas pressuposições importantes. A primeira é que a taxa de transferência entre filmes é regida pelas taxas de difusão através de cada uma das interfaces.…”
