Ammonia Sensing Behaviors of TiO2-PANI/PA6 Composite Nanofibers

Abstract: Titanium dioxide-polyaniline/polyamide 6 (TiO2-PANI/PA6) composite nanofibers were prepared by in situ polymerization of aniline in the presence of PA6 nanofibers and a sputtering-deposition process with a high purity titanium sputtering target. TiO2-PANI/PA6 composite nanofibers and PANI/PA6 composite nanofibers were fabricated for ammonia gas sensing. The ammonia sensing behaviors of the sensors were examined at room temperature. All the results indicated that the ammonia sensing property of TiO2-PANI/PA6 co… Show more

“…Advancement in the application of TiO2/Ppy hetero-structures is attributed to the formation of n-p heterojunctions between TiO2 and Ppy layers. Similar hetero-junctions were reported for TiO2 and another conducting polymer polyaniline (PANI) based hetero-structures TiO2/PANI, which were sensitive towards NH3 [31,32,33,34].…”

“…Continuous efforts have been applied to solve the above questions, including controlling the morphology [23][24][25][26], the decoration with noble metals [27,28] and polymers [29,30] as well as the secondary metal oxides [9,[31][32][33]. Inside them, decorating with different semiconductor metal oxides is an effective choice due to the advantage of the simple progress, low cost, high yield, and so forth.…”

“…Therefore the human activity is a main reason for the presence of larger amount of ammonia in our atmosphere and is a necessity to detect its presence. Hence much research has been focused on the development of suitable gas sensitive materials to detect lower concentration of NH 3 with excellent performance [3].There are several studies concerning metal oxides like SnO 2 , WO 3 , ZnO, TiO 2 for NH 3 sensing applications but generally it requires a high working temperature [4,5]. There are also several conducting polymers like polythiophene, polypyrrole and polyaniline are used for detecting gases, however, the poor selectivity is the main disadvantages of pure inorganic and organic materials.…”
