AMMI Analysis of Yield Performance in Foxtail Millet [Setaria italica (L.) P. Beauv.] Genotypes for Adaptation to Rainfed Conditions in Andhra Pradesh

Abstract: Background: Foxtail millet is a short duration crop which is suitable for different cropping systems in rainfed farming. Improvement of yields is necessary to achieve profits in rainfed situation which is highly influenced by the high yielding varieties. Genotype by environment interaction (G×E) causes genotypes failure to keep high performance in all environments. Location specific climatic conditions also influence significantly genotype × environment (G×E) interaction, so with the result that identifying st… Show more

“…Significant genotype x environment interaction for all the traits indicated differential response of the genotypes for the traits in different locations. The results were in accordance with KebedeDesselegn et al, [11] and Madhavilatha et al, [3] in finger millet, Kandelet al, 2020 in foxtail millet and Selvi and NirmalaKumari, [2] in little millet. The mean performance of the eleven little millet genotypes and environmental indices in three locations for yield and yield components were presented in Table 2.…”

“…Andhra Pradesh state has a wide environmental variability which can lead to high genotype environment interaction. Wide environmental variability in the state suggested the importance of multi-location testing in varietal development process for identifying high yielding varieties with wide adaptation" [3]. "Enhancing the productivity levels by developing and identifying high yielding varieties which can fit in wide range of environments is essential in little millet" [4].…”

“…Patel et al ( 2019) noted significant G×E interaction for yield and quality traits in pearl millet. Madhavilatha et al (2020) reported among the tested genotypes that PR-1041 recorded average stability for grain yield indicated the wide adoptability of this genotype for important traits. Also, found out significant G×E interaction for grain yield plant -1 . Kandel et al (2020) reported that the genotype CO-4656 had mean yield which was higher than the overall mean (0.429 t ha -1 ), parameter of response (b)=1.16 and parameter of stability (S 2 d i )=0.05.…”
