Amino‐terminated Poly(ethylene glycol) (AT‐PEG) Polymer Hydrogels as Efficient Anionic Dye Adsorbents

Abstract: Polymer hydrogels were obtained by mixing the derivative of terpyridine, 4′‐para‐phenylcarboxyl‐2,2′:6′,2′′‐terpyridine (PPCT), and amino‐terminated poly(ethylene glycol) (AT‐PEG) in water. The gelation behaviors, microstructures, rheological properties and application of AT‐PEG/PPCT hydrogels were studied systematically. Microstructures determined by SEM observations demonstrated that the polymer hydrogels were formed by intertwined fibrils. The formation of fibrils was considered to be mainly driven by the e… Show more

“…For OTs–PEG-PPG–PEG–OTs, the peaks at 1110 and 664 cm –1 are ascribed to the stretching vibration of –CH 2 –O–CH 2 – and C–Cl, respectively . The peaks at 1598 and 775 cm –1 were ascribed to the symmetric stretching vibration of sulfonyl (SO) and the in-plane bending vibration of benzene ring groups, respectively . For PI–PEG–PPG–PEG–PI, the peak at 1743 cm –1 , ascribed to the stretching vibration of carbonyl (CO), appeared due to the presence of phthalimide, while the peaks at 1598 (SO) and 664 cm –1 (C–Cl) disappeared .…”

“…29 The peaks at 1598 and 775 cm −1 were ascribed to the symmetric stretching vibration of sulfonyl (S O) and the in-plane bending vibration of benzene ring groups, respectively. 30 For PI−PEG−PPG−PEG−PI, the peak at 1743 cm −1 , ascribed to the stretching vibration of carbonyl (CO), appeared due to the presence of phthalimide, while the peaks at 1598 (SO) and 664 cm −1 (C−Cl) disappeared. 29 For NH 2 −PEG−PPG−PEG−NH 2 , the peak at 1632 cm −1 ascribed to the bending vibration of the primary amino group appeared due to the hydrolysis of phthalimide, and the peak at 1743 cm −1 (CO) disappeared.…”

“…4, the G 0 was higher than G 00 in the test frequency range (0.1-10 Hz) for each sample, and the values of G 0 and G 00 slightly increased with frequency, indicating the dominant elastic character, which was typically observed for polymer gels. 9 Owing to the microstructure transition, the value of G 0 and G 00 increased with the increasing in PA or CS concentration. Based on the microstructure and rheological results, we can conclude that the morphological, rheological and mechanical properties of obtained hydrogels could be readily controlled by regulating the amount of gelators.…”

“…Hydrogen bonding was sensitive to temperature. Thus, when heated, the hydrogels was liqueed to solution due to the destroy of hydrogen bonding between PA and CS, and the solution can turn back into gel in several hours 19042 | RSC Adv., 2019, 9,[19039][19040][19041][19042][19043][19044][19045][19046][19047] This journal is © The Royal Society of Chemistry 2019 once cooled to room temperature since to the recovery of hydrogen bonding. PA, a cyclic acidic molecule saturated with six dihydrogen phosphate, exerted a strong binding affinity to metallic ions, and the capability of chelate bivalent cations would be increased through inducing phosphate variants in a deprotonating environment.…”
