Amino Group Bearing Organic–Inorganic Hybrid Materials for Joining Aluminum Alloys and Thermoplastic Fiber‐Reinforced Parts

Abstract: The production of metal‐based hybrid laminates, such as aluminum combined with thermoplastics like polyamide 6, requires a precise and purposeful design of the interface between the two components. The utilization of twin polymerization has been successfully examined and an improved adhesion behavior is shown. By utilizing the monomers 2,2′‐spirobi[4H‐1,3,2‐benzodioxasiline] and 2‐(3‐amino‐n‐propyl)‐2‐methyl‐4H‐1,3,2‐benzodioxasiline in a molar ratio of 15:85, medial tensile shear strength values of 12.9 ± 3.9… Show more

“…Besides of their advantages like design flexibility or joining of dissimilar materials, adhesive joints confront the designer and production engineer with special challenges. Especially the pre-treatment of the interfaces is focussed in a large number of investigations with regard to interface optimisation on the basis of plasma pre-treatment [7,8], microstructuring [9][10][11] or the use of adhesion promoters [12,13]. In order to increase the load-bearing capacity of the joint, approaches incorporating additional mesoscopic pins were described [14].…”

“…25,26 It is known that the TM can be polymerized in the presence of suitable reactants like other twin monomers or appropriate additives. [30][31][32][33][34] Furthermore, this type of polymerization can widely be applied for the synthesis of monolithic or powdery hybrid materials as well as for the coating of inorganic particles, like metals or metal oxides or even carbon materials. 25,26,30,[35][36][37][38][39] By addition of polyethoxysiloxane (PEOS) or other silanes also the formation of covalent bonds during the reaction between the inorganic components is expected.…”
