With the rapid development of industry and agriculture and the greatly improved living conditions, the resultant gradually deteriorated environments threaten the human beings. Refractory or even toxic pollutants, which are from different industries such as printing and dyeing, pesticides, chemicals, petrochemicals, plastics and rubber, seriously threat the ecosystems and human health. Having the advantages of flexible composition, unique structure, high stability, memory effect, easy preparation and low cost, hydrotalcite compounds have a great potential in sewage degradation and environmental protection. This study focuses on the adsorption and catalytic properties (such as photocatalysis, electrocatalysis and photoelectrocatalysis) of hydrotalcite-derived materials for treating organic, inorganic and heavy metal ion sewage. The types of adsorption and catalysis, and the effects of various influencing factors on the degradation efficiency were discussed as well.Wiley Online Library 355 Figure 13. The electrospun PVDF has gained much attentions due to its excellent piezoelectricity, high flexibility, and low-cost. This study aims to develop the electrospun PVDF nanofibers with high β-phase concentration and piezoelectricity. The samples were prepared by the PVDF solution with different molecular weights. The earth abundant Zinc Oxide nanoparticles serve as the inorganic dopant to increase the polarization of the PVDF film during manufacturing process. The materials characterization methods, including Scanning Electron Microscopy, Energy Dispersive X-Ray, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy were utilized to identify the material properties. The results indicate that the high molecular weight PVDF is favorable for electrospinning to obtain the high quality nanofibers. Furthermore, doping Zinc Oxide nanoparticles can effectively promote the polarization of electrospun PVDF nanofibers.

Polyurethane foams, which are among the most widely used insulating materials, are generally fabricated by the chemical reaction between isocyanate and polyol‐containing chemical additives and blowing agents. Recently, many kinds of blowing agents have been used for the fabrication process of polyurethane foam, such as hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) and chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). However, issues have continuously arisen regarding the destruction of the ozone layer due to these compounds. In the present study, polyurethane foams are manufactured using a mixture of water blowing agents and hydrofluorocarbons (HFC‐365mfc). These samples are subjected to mechanical tests to investigate the effects of the blowing agents on the mechanical properties of the polyurethane foam within a temperature range of 25 to −163 °C. In addition, thermal and microstructural investigations are conducted depending on the content of the HFC‐365mfc. From the scanning electron microscopy observations, the sizes of the structure cells and the windows are found to decrease with the increase in HFC‐365mfc content. In addition, from the Fourier transform‐infrared spectroscopy observations, the chemical bonds that affect mechanical performance are found to be more distributed with the increase in HFC‐365mfc content.
