AMIJIOL, ISOAMIJIOL, AND 14-DEOXYAMIJIOL, THREE NEW DITERPENOIDS FROM THE BROWN SEAWEED DICTYOTA LINEARIS

Abstract: Three new diterpenoids have been isolated from the brown seaweed Dictyota linearis, and their structures determined by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy.

“…The dolastane diterpenes (1) and (2) are known compounds previously isolated from D. divaricata and D. linearis (Sun et al, 1981;Crew et al, 1982) and an unidentified Dictyota from the Canary Islands (Gonzalez et al, 1983). Several of these diterpenoids showed antimicrobial activity against Bacillus subtilis and Penicillium crustosum (Ochi et al, 1980), Staphylococcus aureus and Mucor mucedo (Ochi et al, 1986) and as cytotoxic compounds (Crew et al, 1982). Although some diterpenes have been isolated from Dictyota spp., it was shown that two of them are inhibitors of Na + K + -ATPase.…”

“…Amijiol (4), 14-deoxyamijiol (5), and isoamijiol (6)a re also known from brown algae. [26] Notably,t he algal compounds exhibit a5,14-di-epi skeleton compared to fungal 1.NoTSfor dolastane diterpenes has been reported so far,w hile the intermediate d-araneosene was observed as aside product of (+ +)-fusicocca-2,10(14)-diene synthase from P. amygdali. [7] Access to dolastanes is of high interest because several oxidized members of this class modulate the effects of other drugs in resistant S. aureus strains.…”
