Ameloblastomas sólidos: estudo retrospectivo clínico e histopatológico em 54 casos

Abstract: Recent ly, the World Health Organization (WHO) excluded the desmoplastic pattern from the histopathological spectrum of solid ameloblastomas and classified it as a distinct variant, named desmoplastic ameloblastoma. Aim: To perform a retrospective analysis of the clinicopathologic aspects in a case series of solid ameloblastomas. Study design: Crosssectional cohort study. Materials and methods: Data regarding age, gender, location and clinical characteristics were retrieved from patient records. Histological s… Show more

“…It is a rare type of the tumor (1% -4%) [3]- [5] and was first described in detail by Waldron and El-Mofty in 1987 [10]. Takata et al (1999) reviewed 8 cases of this type.…”

“…"Hybrid" ameloblastoma is a rare variant (about 1% -4% of ameloblastomas) [3]- [5] in which typical areas of follicular or plexiform pattern (generally called onventional ameloblastoma) coexist with areas of pronounced stromaldesmoplasia (desmoplastic ameloblastoma). They most often (80%) occur in the mandible.…”

“…5 According to the literature, solid ameloblastoma occurred least frequently in the maxillary bone. 3,6 Based on the recent classification of odontogenic tumors, by World Health Organization (WHO), benign ameloblastomas are recognized in four subtypes: solid/ multicystic, desmoplastic, unicystic and the extraosseous/peripheral types. Solid ameloblastomas affect the mandible preferably, especially the posterior region with a proportion between the gnathic bones of 1:5.…”
