Ameliorative Effects of Component Chinese Medicine From Curcumae Rhizoma and Sparganii Rhizoma, a Traditional Herb Pair, on Uterine Leiomyoma in a Rat Model

Abstract: Uterine leiomyoma (UL), common benign tumors in women of child-bearing age, are believed to be caused mainly by Qi stagnation and blood stasis, according to a theory of traditional Chinese medicine. Curcumae Rhizoma and Sparganii Rhizoma (CRSR) is a classical herb pair that activates blood circulation to dissipate blood stasis. The purpose of this study was to explore the prevention and treatment effects of CRSR component compatibility on UL in rats. We randomly assigned adult female non-pregnant rats into thr… Show more

“…These studies partly revealed the scientificity of the effects of Hirudo on alleviating blood stasis from the perspective of both chemical compound and potential mechanism. Similarly, the effects of Curcumae rhizoma on alleviate blood stasis also been reported by previous research, which may be partly related to its activities on decreasing in plasma viscosity, erythrocyte aggregation index as well as the erythrocyte sedimentation rate equation K value (Zhang et al, 2021). These above-mentioned researches provided some evidence support of the efficacies of Pheretima, Hirudo, and Curcumae rhizoma on promoting blood circulation and alleviating blood stasis.…”

“…The cumulative incidence of UF in women before the age of 50 is as high as 70% ( Walker and Stewart, 2005 ). Despite their benign nature, UF still causes a variety of symptoms, such as pelvic pressure, uterine bleeding, anemia, or infertility ( Islam et al, 2013 ), and is mainly treated through surgery and drugs ( Zhang L. et al, 2021 ), such as hysterectomy, leading to devastating effects on approximately two 200,000 per year in United States ( Cardozo et al, 2012 ). Unfortunately, their origins and internal mechanism have not been characterized so far ( Andersen and Barbieri, 1995 ).…”

“…The wet weight of the uterus and ovary and the uterine and ovarian coefficients were determined. The organ coefficient was calculated as the wet organ weight/body weight of rats (when sampling) × 100% [ 15 ].…”
