Ameliorative effect of a nano chromium metal–organic framework on experimental diabetic chronic kidney disease

Abstract: Metal–Organic Frameworks (MOFs) are a new class of crystalline porous structures which can be used as a novel structure in diverse fields of medical science. Several studies have shown that chromium supplementation can be effective in amelioration of biochemical parameters of diabetes and its renal complications. Therefore, a chromium‐containing MOF (DIFc) was synthetized by nanochelating technology in the present study and then its effect on biochemical indices in diabetic rats was evaluated. Diabetes was ind… Show more

“…Albuminuria, including micro-albuminuria and macro-albuminuria, has been used both as a useful initial marker for kidney damage and a marker associated with an increased risk of progressive renal diseases [ 22 , 23 ]. However, a possible protective interaction effect is being increasingly reported for the interaction effect between chromium exposure and diabetic chronic kidney disease, based on improved glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity [ 24 28 ].…”

“…This protective interaction effect of chromium on diabetic patients with nephropathy can be used for establishing a future effective treatment strategy for diabetic nephropathy. For example, a study reports a possible positive effect of prescribing a nano chromium metal-organic framework on diabetic chronic kidney disease patients [ 24 ].…”

“…Metal organic frameworks have been widely used in various fields, including in the medical field [ 88 ]. A study demonstrated that metal organic frameworks effectively reduced the HOMA-IR index, BUN, uric acid and malondialdehyde in plasma samples of experimental DN [ 89 ]. At present, research has proven that BCc1, a nanochelate with iron chelating properties, has antitumor effects [ 90 ].…”

“…Chromium containing MOF synthesised using nanochelating technology after 8 weeks of treatment in diabetic rats decreased insulin resistance and improved creatinine clearance. 113 Ethyl vanillin (EVA) Ethyl vanillin (EVA), an analogue of vanillin, is a common food additive and has antioxidant activity. In vivo and in vitro studies demonstrated that EVA may protect against DKD through inhibition of oxidative stress and apoptosis and the protective effect might be associated with the regulation of the activation of Nrf2.…”
