Abstract: Background: Antibiotics are among the most common drugs prescribed in outpatient settings. It is estimated that up to 50 % are prescribed unnecessarily or inappropriately. In 2011, the Urology De partment recommended new guidelines with the recommendation of nitrofurantoin as the drug of choice at a dose of 100 mg every 12 hours for 5 days (18).
