Amblyopia

Abstract: Amblyopia, informally called "lazy eye," is reduced vision in an eye due to abnormal visual development as a child. Amblyopia is a condition in which an eye has reduced vision due to abnormal development of the visual pathways during childhood. When the brain receives poor information from one eye, it stops communicating with that eye. This means that the brain relies on information from the other, "stronger" eye. It is possible for amblyopia to occur in both eyes. Causes of AmblyopiaAmblyopia can be present a… Show more

“…Persons who visited the hospital underwent a complete eye examination including ocular motility test, slit lamp examination, refraction, cover-uncover test, and dilated retinal evaluation. The inclusion criteria were set as follows: (1) aged between 12 and 18 and (2) diagnosed with amblyopia [18]. The exclusion criteria were set as follows: (1) with strabismus [19], (2) with severe diseases that influence the daily life, and (3) unwilling to join in the study (for both teenager participants and their parents).…”

“…Amblyopia is a condition where the eye has limited vision due to abnormal development of the visual pathways. When the brain receives unclear information, it starts to ignore the eye and gradually turns off its function [18]. This must be mentioned to the patient in order to dissuade him from the misconception.…”

“…Amblyopia is a decrease in monocular or binocular bestcorrected visual acuity that leads to abnormal visual experiences (monocular strabismus, anisometropia, high ametropia, and form deprivation) during visual development (Kates and Beal, 2021). Factors that cause amblyopia include ametropia, strabismus, anisometropia, ptosis, lens opacity, and form deprivation (Paff et al, 2010;Rajavi et al, 2012;Barrett et al, 2013).…”
