Amberlite IR-120 Modified with 8-Hydroxyquinoline as Efficient Adsorbent for Solid-Phase Extraction and Flame Atomic Absorption Determination of Trace Amounts of Some Metal Ions

Abstract: In this study, a solid-phase extraction method combined with atomic absorption spectrometry for extraction, preconcentration, and determination of iron (Fe(3+)), copper (Cu(2+)), and lead (Pb(2+)) ions at trace levels in water samples has been reported. The influences of effective parameters such as flow rate, pH, eluent conditions (type, volume, and concentration), sample volumes, and interference of matrix ions on metal ions recoveries were studied. Under optimized conditions, the limits of detection were fo… Show more

“…The 8-hydroxyquinolinic fragment in 4 and 5, in which the hydroxyquinolinic fragment is part of the main chromophore system, gives these molecules chelating properties (Daneshfar et al, 2012;Karatapanis et al, 2011). The large -conjugated system gives fragment a (Scheme 1) rigidity and planarity for an increased UV absorption (Marrugo-Gonzalez et al, 2015).…”

“…8-hydroxyquinoline and its derivatives have chelating (Daneshfar et al, 2012) and fluorescent properties (Kong et al, 2012). We have described the synthesis of chalcones 2а-g and 3а-g (Scheme 1) from the condensation of 5acetyl-and 5-formyl-8-hydroxyquinoline with substituted benzaldehydes and benzophenones (Marrugo González et al, 2012).…”

“…This is probably taken place because the dissociation of chelating groups on the chelator enhance the tendency for retention of metal ions by complexation. However, the relatively slight decrease in extraction efficiency at higher pH, might ascribed to the precipitation of metals in form of M(OH) [52].…”
