Amazonian Anopheles with low numbers of oocysts transmit Plasmodium vivax sporozoites during a blood meal

Abstract: Anopheles darlingi is the main malarial vector in the Brazilian Amazon region. An. nuneztovari s.l., An. triannulatus s.l., An. evansae, and An. benarrochi s.l. do not have a defined role as malarial vectors, although they have been found to be naturally infected with Plasmodium vivax, and some develop oocysts.
