Alveolar soft part sarcoma of the endometrium with expression of CD10 and hormone receptors

Abstract: Alveolar soft part sarcoma (ASPS) is a rare tumor of uncertain histogenesis, mainly localized in the extremities. ASPS originating in the uterine corpus is quite rare; only eight such cases have been reported in the literature. We here present another case of ASPS found in the endometrium in a 50-year-old woman. Metastatic malignant tumor, including ASPS from other organs, was excluded by physical examination and imaging modalities. Thallium 201 was only localized in the uterus. The tumor showed characteristic… Show more

“…While RCCs are usually immunopositive for CD10, EMA, vimentin, and variably for pan‐cytokeratin, ASPS typically does not react with these markers. Aberrant CD10 immunopositivity, as in our case, has been observed previously only in a single case of a uterine ASPS, where the authors hypothesized a possible link to endometrial stromal cells . We did not find any other CD10 immunopositive ASPS in our recent archival tissue.…”

“…Despite the name, clear cell sarcoma more commonly has eosinophilic cytoplasm. 176,177 CD10 expression has been reported in alveolar soft part sarcoma, 178 but other renal lineage markers have not been well studied. Immunohistochemically, clear cell sarcoma has a melanocytic phenotype with expression of S-100 protein, HMB-45, melanA, and other markers.…”

“…This was described in a 57-yr-old female as multiple nodules in the vagina 5. Since then, several cases have been described in the literature, mostly as case reports and small series 6–10. A recent study described the largest series of these tumors involving the female genital tract.…”
