Alveolar Recruitment and Arterial Desflurane Concentration During Bariatric Surgery

Abstract: Although the RM during bariatric surgery represents an effective method for improving intraoperative oxygenation, it does not significantly affect the desflurane blood concentrations during anesthesia or its elimination during emergence.

“…Only one of these 2 studies was included, for a total of 6 studies receiving a Jadad score of Ն 3. 14,19,20,[27][28][29] The 2013 study by Futier et al 30 was not included because of the excessively large V T in the control group (10 -12 mL/kg), as well as the lack of a protocol to account for confounding variables with their primary outcome measurements.…”

“…This model is motivated by the idea that by generalizing the gamma variate function to include the stretched exponential, one can only better approximate the multiexponential function related to multicompartment models. On the other hand the stretched exponential contains the power function (t/) c , which is a signature of fractal kinetics (1,2,26). It is likely that fractal kinetics plays a role in physiological processes involved, as they are happening in spaces exhibiting fractal structures.…”
