Abstract:Dry socket or Alveolar Osteitis (AO) is amongst the most common complications following extraction of teeth in dentistry. A great number of research literature is available to alveolar osteitis with reference to its etiology and pathophysiology. Many studies are available for techniques to prevent AO but controversy still exists regarding the actual etiology, pathophysiology, methods of prevention and treatment. Review of the concepts and controversies surrounding AO is an aim of this article.
