Aluminum oxide ceramic fibers and materials based on them

Abstract: The continual growth of the working temperatures of modern aircraft and gas-turbine facilities requires increasing the performance characteristics of ceramic, including heat-shielding and heat-insulating, materials. Materials based on aluminum oxide fibers show the greatest promise for use at temperatures to 1750°C. Different types of fibers developed at the FGUP VIAM and their particularities and use in materials are examined. Different types of fibrous heat-shielding and heat-insulating materials and their t… Show more

“…As early as the 1970s, oxide ceramic fibers were on the market in the form of filaments or short fibers. These fibers were mostly composed of Al 2 O 3 , [ 17 ] silicon oxide (SiO 2 ), [ 18 ] and zirconium oxide (ZrO 2 ), [ 19 ] and were usually used for high‐temperature applications due to their high melting points. Subsequently, oxide ceramic fibers evolved toward nanonization and diversification in the next 50 years for extended applications and improved performance.…”

“…(Note that, we will index phases by Greek symbols.) For this reason, an equation analogous to (2.2) holds: 4) and so similarly we need to consider only M − 1 phase variables. Therefore, at any positionx there are N different values of the compositions and M different values of the phases.…”

“…In recent years, the use of oxide ceramics in industrial applications has exploded. Oxide ceramics are now commonly used for heat shields [4], catalysis [6], and high-intensity discharge lamps [9]. This manuscript was motivated by the use of oxide ceramics in filtration applications.…”

“…В настоящее время волокна Al 2 O 3 находят все более широкое применение при создании композитов и материалов с улучшенными сорбционными и каталитическими свойствами, коррозионной и износостойкостью [1,2]. Одним из эффективных методов получения дискретных волокон с развитой системой пор и высокой удельной поверхностью является «биокопирование» различных природных волокнистых материалов, в частности, целлюлозы [3][4][5][6].…”
