Aluminium Nanoparticles Prepared by Ultrasonic Ablation Technique inside the Active Layer of Organic Solar Cell

Abstract: In the present work, chemical-free aluminium nanoparticles (Al NPs) have been incorporated inside active layer of organic solar cell (OSC) using a new ultrasonic ablation technique, by which the Al NPs have been physically prepared in 1,2-dichlorobenzene (DCB) as a solvent for preparing solar cell active layer. The concentration of Al NPs inside active layer can be increased by increasing the volume of DCB-Al NPs and, also, by increasing the ultrasonication time applied upon DCB-Al NPs mixture. The prepared Al… Show more

“…6, agree with those in the case of using aluminum as a back electrode, as stated in our previous works. 13,15) This means that the value of V oc may not depend on the difference between the work functions of the front and back electrodes in solar cells. The difference between the work functions of ITO and Sn electrodes equals 0.38 eV, as shown in Fig.…”

“…Depending on energy suitability with the active layer in OSCs, a thin aluminum film is often used as a back electrode in a solar cell composed of poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (P3HT) and phenyl-C 61 -butyric acid methyl ester (PC 61 BM). [13][14][15][16] Aluminum as a low-work-function metal (4.20 eV) 17,18) is not the ultimate choice as a back electrode for OSCs due to several drawbacks and defects. Aluminum with a small atomic radius (1.3607 Å) 19) can diffuse into the solar cell active layer and react with the organic active layer to distort its chemical and, therefore, physical properties.…”

“…This makes nanoparticles a very good candidate for technological applications, for instance in surface enhanced resonance Raman scattering, optical biosensor, and photo-catalysis. The metal NPs can be prepared by different techniques such as liquid chemical method, laser ablation in liquids with pico and femtosecond laser pulses (LAP), and by deposition of the metal on a substrate followed by thermal annealing [3].…”
