“…Currently, two treatment approaches are proposed for the restoration of carious primary teeth in the UK; the conventional and the biological. Conventional restoration includes complete removal of carious tissue followed by placing a suitable filling material with or without pulp therapy, whereas the biological approach involves the isolation of the carious lesion from the biofilm using for example sealants, the Hall Technique, and indirect pulp capping.…”

“…Despite clear guidelines that restorations should be provided, the feasibility of asking general dental practitioners to restore all the decayed primary teeth has been questioned [ 6 ]. Fortunately, the requirements for management of caries in the primary dentition can be different from those in the permanent dentition as the lifespan of primary teeth before tooth shedding is usually about 6–8 years [ 7 ].…”

“…Therefore, restorative care should be considered as one option for treating cavitated primary teeth and conventional treatment should be considered as one of the restorative care options. Other viable treatment options are the ART approach, the Hall technique silver diamine fluoride (SDF) application and the non‐restorative caries treatment (NRCT). Comparison has been made between ART restorations and amalgam restorations in primary teeth and these have been found to perform equally well, while the Hall technique, SDF and the NRCT require further investigation because of the insufficient number of studies undertaken to determine their value for general use.…”
