Alternative Eco-Friendly Methods in the Control of Post-Harvest Decay of Tropical and Subtropical Fruits

Abstract: The effectiveness on several fruits by the application of alternative methods against fungi is summarized in the present chapter. Several investigations have reported the efficacy of these technologies for controlling fungal infections. Currently, high post-harvest loses have been reported due to several factors such as inefficient management, lack of training for farmers, and problems with appropriate conditions for storage of fruits and vegetables. Even now, in many countries, post-harvest disease control is… Show more

“…Therefore, microbial decay of fruits and vegetables is a great concern for researchers to formulate a driven strategy control measures with long-standing efficiency. Nanotechnology is an alternative solution to develop sustainable horticulture in preserving and managing post-harvest diseases of fruits and vegetables [ 74 , 75 ]. This technology offers various products such as packaging thin films; helping for labeling fresh products using the multiple chips (nanobiosensors), improvement of packaging appearance and prevention of the impact of gases and unsafe rays.…”

“…Depending on the concentration and size of the chitosan, it can penetrate further and reach the nucleus, where it destabilizes the nuclear membrane and interacts with DNA and RNA, interfering with the vital functions of the fungus [62,[74][75][76][77][78][79]. Finally, the internal and external morphologies of the conidia and mycelium of C. gloeosporioides, as well as the biochemical and physiological processes of the fungus, are altered without the possibility to sporulate [80].…”
