“…Bertrand et al [2] described that the hardness values published for the rutile TiO 2 are between 580 and 700 HK and the values commonly measured for the anatase TiO 2 are between 550 and 580 HK. The results obtained for coating microhardness measurements 602±5 HK are on the similar level as presented in [2] , however the lower level than hardness depicted for TiO 2 [8,9] and Al 2 O 3 -TiO 2 [16,19] plasma sprayed coatings. It indicates the influence of plasma spraying process on hardness results.…”

“…Moreover, TiO 2 coatings with addition of NiAl can be sprayed on engine elements because of their resistance do high temperature oxidation and creep [3,5,12,13]. However, microstructure and properties of TiO 2 with addition of Al 2 O 3 powders are discussed in particular, as stated in the literature [11,16,20]. In the specialised literature and technical notes, a little information about coatings deposited with TiO 2 -10 wt.% NiAl feedstock powder is given.…”

“…In the rst case, during dry sliding, micro-cracks and dislocated networks may yield wear debris as detected inside pits. The wear particles are trapped in the contact interface and are subjected to continuous fracture, distortion or chemical reaction, producing micro-sized powders [55]. For Al 2 O coating, the wear coe cient suddenly increases at 400 o C due to chippings or spalling from the substrate.…”

“…Al 2 O 3 -xwt.%TiO 2 , as one of the most widely used ceramic coating materials, is used in plasma spraying to improve the corrosion resistance of metal surfaces [7,8]. Compared with a single alumina coating, an Al 2 O 3 -xwt.%TiO 2 coating doped with TiO 2 has better wear resistance and toughness, despite the loss of some surface hardness [9][10][11]. Nevertheless, the pores, cracks, and non-liquefied particles in the Al 2 O 3 -xwt.%TiO 2 coating prepared by plasma spraying are the main factors affecting the performance of the coating [12][13][14].…”
