Altererythrobacter epoxidivorans gen. nov., sp. nov., an epoxide hydrolase-active, mesophilic marine bacterium isolated from cold-seep sediment, and reclassification of Erythrobacter luteolus Yoon et al. 2005 as Altererythrobacter luteolus comb. nov.

Abstract: A novel marine bacterium, strain JCS350T, was isolated from marine sediment samples collected from a cold-seep area. The 16S rRNA gene sequence of the isolate showed high similarity to that of Erythrobacter luteolus SW-109T (95.9 % sequence similarity). Lower 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities were shown to other members of the genus Erythrobacter (94.6–95.4 %) and members of the genus Porphyrobacter (94.5–95.2 %). Phylogenetic analysis with all members of the family Erythrobacteraceae and … Show more

“…Ubiquinone-10 is the major respiratory quinone. Most species in the family have been isolated from various aquatic environments such as freshwater, seawater, marine mats or sediment, a hot spring, seaweed, a starfish and coral (Shiba & Simidu, 1982; Fuerst et al, 1993;Yurkov et al, 1994; Hanada et al, 1997; Denner et al, 2002; Hiraishi et al, 2002;Rainey et al, 2003;Yoon et al, 2003Yoon et al, , 2004a Yoon et al, , b, 2005a Yoon et al, , b, 2006Ivanova et al, 2005;Kwon et al, 2007). “…The genus Altererythrobacter was first proposed by Kwon et al (2007) and comprises three species with validly published names: Altererythrobacter epoxidivorans (Kwon et al, 2007), A. luteolus (Yoon et al, 2005b;Kwon et al, 2007) and A. indicus (Kumar et al, 2008). Members of the genus Altererythrobacter are non-motile and do not contain bacteriochlorophyll a (BChl a) as a photosynthetic pigment.…”
