“…For example, BPA (10 −8 -10 −5 M) stimulates basal and FSH-induced progesterone production while inhibiting FSH-stimulated E 2 secretion in pig granulosa cells in vitro [118]. The mechanism of action for BPA in granulosa cells has not, however, been reported.…”

“…In cultured porcine granulosa cells, all doses of BPA (0.1-10 mM) decreased progesterone production, while a low dose of 0.1 mM increased E 2 levels and high doses ranging from 1 to 100 mM BPA decreased E 2 production (Grasselli et al 2010). Another study with porcine granulosa cells showed that, depending on the dose given, BPA increased basal (1 mM) and FSHinduced (10 mM) progesterone production, while it inhibited (1-100 mM) FSH-induced E 2 production (Mlynarcíková et al 2005). Furthermore, BPA (100 mM) decreased progesterone production, decreased expansion of cumulus cells and inhibited oocyte maturation in porcine oocyte-cumulus complexes (Mlynarcíková et al 2009).…”

“…Further evidence of the effect of BPA on ovarian granulosa cells was provided by Mlynarcikova et al (2005), who demonstrated decreased FSH-induced oestradiol production by porcine ovarian granulosa cells after 72 h incubation with BPA in the range of 10 −8 -10 −4 M. More recently, in rat ovarian granulosa cells cultured in vitro with BPA, Zhou et al (2008) demonstrated a concentration-dependent inhibitory effect of BPA (10 −6 -10 −4 M) on oestradiol levels and the expression of P450arom mRNA. The decrease in oestradiol production was shown to be mediated, in part, by disruption of ovarian steroidogenic enzymes, specifically the mRNA expression of P450arom, a key enzyme in oestradiol synthesis.…”

“…In vitro studies have confirmed the ability of BPA to disrupt meiotic spindle formation, centrosome dynamics and chromosome alignment and segregation (Can et al, 2005;Lenie et al, 2008). In addition to oocyte aneuploidy, in vitro studies using porcine and rat ovarian cells showed that exposure to low doses of BPA resulted in significant concentrationdependent inhibition of oestradiol production (Mlynarcikova et al, 2005;Zhou et al, 2008).…”
