Fruit set is one of the main problems that arise in tomato plants under heat-stress conditions, which disrupt pollen development, resulting in decreased pollen fertility. Parthenocarpic tomatoes can be used to increase plant productivity during failure of the fertilisation process under heat-stress conditions. The aim of this study were to identify the plant adaptability and fruiting capability of ?iaa9-3 and iaa9-5 tomato mutants under heat-stress conditions. The iaa9-3 and iaa9-5 and wild-type Micro-Tom (WT-MT) plants were cultivated under two temperature conditions: normal and heat-stress conditions during plant growth. The results showed that under the heat-stress condition, iaa9-3 and iaa9-5 showed delayed flowering time, increased number of flowers, and increased fruit set and produced normal-sized fruit. However, WT-MT cannot produce fruits under heat stress. The mutants can grow under heat-stress conditions, as indicated by the lower electrolyte leakage and H2O2 concentration and higher antioxidant activities compared with WT-MT under heat-stress conditions. These results suggest that iaa9-3 and iaa9-5 can be valuable genetic resources for the development of tomatoes in high-temperature environmental conditions.

Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is classified as a climacteric fruit that is easily damaged, especially during the storage and shipping process, so proper postharvest management is needed. Postharvest management of climacteric fruit can be overcome by inhibiting the process of respiration and transpiration using activated charcoal. Activated charcoal works by absorbing ethylene gas during the respiration process. This study aims to analyze the use of bidara activated charcoal variations as an inhibitor of tomato ripeness and to examine changes in fruit quality during the 10day storage. The research used One Way Anova analysis with one factor of variation of activated charcoal with control treatment, 1gr, 3gr, and 5gr. Parameters tested were weight loss, Total Soluble Solid, and vitamin C. The use of bidara activated charcoal on tomatoes got the best results in the 5gr treatment with a weight loss value of 0.46%, 0.10 obrix total dissolved solids, and 18.93% vitamin C. Bidara activated charcoal had an effect on weight loss and total soluble solids but had no effect on vitamin C content. Bidara wood activated charcoal can be developed into an absorbent material for tomatoes.

Biodiversitas 23: 3115-3126.This study aimed to analyze the morphological and physiological responses of iaa9 mutants and its WT-MT to different levels of drought stress in in vitro growing medium. This study applied a completely randomized design with two factors, i.e., tomato genotypes and polyethylene glycol (PEG) - induced drought stress levels. The factor of varieties consisted of three levels, i.e., WT-MT as control (G1), iaa9-3(G2), and iaa9-5 (G3). The factor of PEG-induced drought stress also consisted of four levels, i.e., 0% PEG as control (PEG0), 5% PEG (PEG5), 10% PEG (PEG10), and 15% PEG (PEG15). The results observed 12 weeks after culture showed the variations of the morpho-physiological response of WT-MT and mutant genotypes to PEG-induced in vitro drought stress. The WT-MT showed a higher reduction in plantlet height, root number, and root length than mutants under severe drought conditions. The plantlet fresh and dry weight of iaa9-3and iaa9-5were higher than its WT-MT under no drought conditions. The total chlorophyll content of WT-MT was lower than iaa9-5due to the significant gain of chlorophyll-b on that mutant rather than its WT-MT. However, the analysis of principal components and correlation revealed the reduction of morphological size and leaf pigment content in response to drought stress, irrespective of genotype factor. These results suggest that in vitro selection techniques using PEG is useful for the initial screening of drought-tolerant tomato.
