AlphaVBeta3 Integrin expression within uterine endometrium in unexplained infertility: a prospective cohort study

Abstract: BackgroundImplantation defect is one of these contributing factors for unexplained infertility. In the mid-luteal phase, when implantation is expected to happen, Integrins expression is remarkably increased. So, Integrins could potentially serve as markers for the frame of the window of implantation. αVβ3 integrin could have a role as a potential receptor for embryonic attachment. The aim of the current study is to investigate whether the women with unexplained infertility have a pattern of expression of endom… Show more

“…For human embryo implantation, several adhesion-promoting molecules, such as trophinin [27][28][29], L-selectin ligand [30][31][32][33], integrin αVβIII [34][35][36][37], and CD44 [38][39][40], were demonstrated to be expressed on human endometrial epithelial cells during the receptive phase. The expression of integrin βIII was found to be promoted by the embryonic interleukin (IL)-1 system, supporting the presence of cross-talk between blastocysts and the endometrial epithelium during embryonic implantation [41].…”

“…A total of 224 older women (≥ 35 years) and 215 women under the age of 35 who wanted to become pregnant were recruited. Women were included if they had regular menstrual cycles (28-32 days) and partners with normal semen [8]. Women were excluded if they had polycystic ovarian syndrome, endometriosis, pelvic acute or chronic inflammatory diseases, abnormal thyroid function, or underwent gynaecological surgery.…”

“…A total of 224 older women (≥ 35 years) and 215 women under the age of 35 who wanted to become pregnant were recruited. Women were included if they had regular menstrual cycles (28-32 days), bilateral fallopian tubal patency detected by hysterosalpingogram, and partners with normal semen according to WHO criteria [7]. Women were excluded if they had polycystic ovarian syndrome, thyroid disease, gynaecological surgery, pelvic inflammatory diseases or endometriosis.…”
