“…Controls of sedimentary facies and stratal patterns by strike-slip tectonics were also discussed in many papers (Lee and Chough, 1999;Ryang and Chough, 1999;Bridges and Castle, 2003;Yue et al, 2004), but the specific explanation for significant differences in the paleogeomorphology and the types of depositional facies in strike-slip basins prior to, during and after the strike-slip movement is poorly understood.…”

“…More data, however, is needed to verify many of the trends and predictions made here, and thus provide more detailed, robust, and valuable conclusions. half-graben tectonic setting (e.g., Blair & Bilodeau, 1988;Crowell & Link, 1982;Gawthorpe & Leeder, 2000;McLaughlin & Nilsen, 1982;Morley, 2002;Nilsen & Sylvester, 1995;Prosser, 1993;Ryang & Chough, 1999).…”

“…Christie-Blick and Biddle 1985; Ryang and Chough 1999). The reconstructed basin geometry and strong lateral thickness changes of the Fohnsdorf Formation suggest that the evolution of the Fohnsdorf-Seckau Basin started by the formation of smaller pull-apart basins between en-echelon leftstepping ENE-striking segments of the sinistral MMF.…”

“…A general fining and thinning trend from the southern basin margin towards the center is observed. Depositional systems are interpreted as coarse-grained alluvial fans and fan deltas or braid deltas (Leeder and Gawthorpe 1987;Ryang and Chough 1999) prograding into a lacustrine half-graben from the south. The fans were controlled by active fault scarps, which formed by N-directed normal faulting at the southern basin margin during the Middle to Late Badenian.…”
