Most of the Castanopsis indica forest of Nepal in the midhill region was degraded in the recent past especially due to policy conflict between government and local users. But after the introduction of community forestry system, these forests have been rejuvenated gradually. Therefore, the proportion of the juvenile plants in forests is very high and the contribution of juvenile plants on total biomass production cannot be overlooked. Therefore this study was carried out to develop juvenile biomass models. We measured diameter at 10 cm above ground level (D), total height (H), density (ρ) and total biomass (W) of indica juveniles. The models were estimated using "library (minpack.lm)" in R. The estimated models were evaluated by using numerical fit statistics and graphical analyses. The selected model Ŵi = 52.28 (D i 2 H i ) 0.89 explained >95% juvenile biomass of indica with RSE=42.34g, AIC=406.8 and average deviation=13.26.

Jenis nyawai baru dikembangkan untuk pengembangan hutan tanaman. Pendugaan potensi ini memerlukan instrumen penduga volume yang tepat. Namun, instrumen tersebut belum tersedia. Volume pohon ditentukan dengan (SRB) sehingga pohon-pohon contoh tidak ditebang. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendapatkan model penduga volume terbaik dan menduga potensi tegakan nyawai di PT. ITCI-Kartika Utama Kalimantan Timur. Penyusunan model penduga volume menggunakan model linear dan non linear dengan peubah tunggal diameter, dua pubah (diameter dan tinggi), dan kombinasi diameter dengan tinggi. Model terbaik ditentukan menggunakan parameter statistik antara lain: standar error, signifikasi parameter dugaan, koefisien determinasi terkoreksi (R adj), , (AIC), simpangan relatif dan agregatif, dan bias. Model terbaik penduga volume menggunakan diamater dan tinggi sebagai peubah bebasnya dengan persamaan: Penambahan tinggi dalam penyusunan model penduga volume meningkatkan akurasi dan ketepatan dugaan dibandingkan model dengan peubah tunggal. Namun demikian, berdasarkan pertimbangan kepraktisan di lapangan, persamaan dengan variabel diameter yaitu: dapat digunakan. Model tersebut hanya digunakan dan hanya berlaku pada kondisi iklim dan tempat tumbuh yang sama. Potensi volume pohon berkisar antara 21,66 m /ha 113,56 m /ha untuk umur 4 7 tahun. Model penduga volume yang telah disusun dapat diterapkan pada tegakan dengan karakteristik tempat tumbuh hampir sama.

Tree height (H) and diameter at breast height (D) are key variables to calculate tree volume and biomass. We developed a height-diameter (H-D) model forCinnamomum tamalaby evaluating 18 nonlinear models. Akaike Information Criterion (AIC), Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), mean bias, Mean Absolute Error (MAE), graphical appearance, and biological logic were the criteria used to evaluate the predictive performance of the models. Gompertz model (M14) performed the best for predicting the total height ofC. tamalatrees with the least RMSE (1.742 m), mean bias (0.012 m), and MAE (1.342 m) and satisfied model assumptions and biological logic. Validation data ranked the Gompertz model as the best model with RMSE (1.546 m), mean bias (-0.106 m), and MAE (1.149 m). Despite the consistent performance of the Gompertz model, it tended to underestimate the height prediction for taller (dominant crown class) and larger trees. Further work on refitting and validation of the proposed model with data from a larger geographic area, wider-ranging sites, and stand conditions is recommended.
