Alleviating the adverse effects of salinity on Roselle plants by green synthesized nanoparticles

Abstract: In the present study, an eco-friendly process was made for the rapid synthesis of silver nanoparticles using aqueous leaf extract of Hibiscus sabdariffa. The process was characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV–visible and X-ray diffraction (XRD). These green silver nanoparticles (NPs) were used for mitigating the adverse effects of salinity on seed germination and growth parameters in plants. Accordingly, two experiment… Show more

“…Furthermore, GSN enhanced antioxidant enzyme activities (SOD, POD, APX, and CAT) and increased levels of osmoprotectors (soluble sugars, carbohydrates, and proline). Also, the expression of anthocyaninbiosynthesis-related genes (ANS, F3H, and CHS) was increased and resulted in an enhanced accumulation of flavonoids and anthocyanins [94].…”

“…Nanoparticles and salinity had a synergistic impact that greatly increased concentrations of the amino acid proline and the soluble sugar glucose. Natural solutes like these are crucial for maintaining cellular homeostasis and osmoregulation when exposed to high levels of salt, as observed in Roselle plants [66].…”

“…Anthocyanin accumulation is associated with its reaction to abiotic and biotic stress. The elevation in anthocyanin content in roselle plants can be a strategy for salt tolerance [68]. The oxidative damage that occurred in roselle leaves due to osmotic stress has been alleviated by the ALE application.…”
