“…A new epidemic of ACD from glucose sensors has recently arisen, often also in children suffering from diabetes, a subject recently reviewed by Herman et al [82], and in which isobornyl acrylate was demonstrated to be the main sensitizing culprit [83], although also ethyl cyanoacrylate was reported as a cause as well [84,85], the latter cross-reacting to other cyanoacrylates increasingly used as a liquid skin adhesive Dermabond (Ethicon, Bridgewater, New Jersey) in plastic but also orthopedic surgery [86].…”

“…Allergic contact dermatitis caused by cyanoacrylatebased medical adhesives has been frequently described in the literature, 2 with Dermabond being commonly implicated in numerous cases of tissue adhesive contact hypersensitivity. 3,4 Here, we describe a novel case of allergic contact dermatitis caused by VenaSeal following surgical intervention for venous incompetence.…”

“…VenaSeal (Medtronic, Minneapolis, Minnesota) is a medical tissue adhesive containing n‐butyl‐2‐cyanoacrylate, and is injected endovenously for the treatment of varicose veins and venous incompetence. Allergic contact dermatitis caused by cyanoacrylate‐based medical adhesives has been frequently described in the literature, with Dermabond being commonly implicated in numerous cases of tissue adhesive contact hypersensitivity . Here, we describe a novel case of allergic contact dermatitis caused by VenaSeal following surgical intervention for venous incompetence.…”

“…Patch testing was both positive to this tested "as is" and to diaminodiphenylmethane [247]. Cyanoacrylates are used as surgical glues, e.g., Dermabond™, and may cause ACD surrounding the site of an excision or wound repair [248]. In a review of 38 patients of a history of ACD to such surgical glues, mostly Dermabond™, found that just using ethyl cyanoacrylate 10% pet., which is available as commercial patch test allergen, only detected 29% of the cases and the addition of octyl cyanoacrylate 10% pet.…”
