Allelopathic Effects of Aqueous Leaf Extracts from Four Shrub Species on Seed Germination and Initial Growth of Amygdalus pedunculata Pall.

Abstract: This study aimed to screen out the shrub species which can promote the seed germination and seedling growth of Amygdalus pedunculata Pall. and offer insight for ecological environment governance of the coal mines subsidence area in Mu Us Sandy Land, Yulin City of Shaanxi Province. The indoor bioassay method was used to study the aqueous leaf extracts from Amorpha fruticosa Linn., Hedysarum mongolicum Turez., Sabina vulgaris Ant., and Hippophae rhamnoides Linn. under different concentration gradients to examine… Show more

“…Our results are in agreement with the reports from other studies, i.e. allelopathy frequently depends on allelochemical concentrations [34]. Studies have shown that allelochemicals inhibit the synthesis of indoleacetic acid and gibberellin, thus hindering germination in target plants [35].…”

“…Our previous study has shown that some shrubs and herbs can induce seed germination and seedling growth in A. pedunculata ( Wang et al, 2018 ; Zhang et al, 2018 ). Trees are an important part of mixed plantations; however, few studies have assessed the ability of trees to facilitate A. pedunculata seed germination and seedling growth.…”

“…All the 18 litter samples collected from each forest type were combined and homogenized after natural air drying in the laboratory. For each forest type, 400 g of the mixed litter was weighed and immersed in 4 L of distilled water for 24 h. The leachate was filtered with double gauze and used as a stock solution (0.1 g/mL), and then the solution was diluted (0.1 g/mL, 0.05 g/mL or 0.025 g/mL) with distilled water and used as three concentration treatments [56,57]. The pH of the leachate was measured using an electrode pH meter in triplicate.…”
