All-optical vapor density control for electromagnetically induced transparency

Abstract: We demonstrate the feasibility of coherent spectroscopy experiments in alkali vapors at room temperature by using an automatic all-optical atomic dispenser. The reliability of the system is proved by observing electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) resonances in siloxane-coated cells where large and stable K densities are achieved by light-controlled atomic desorption from the cell coating. The experimental results prove that this technique preserves the orientation of the atomic system, and, at the sa… Show more

“…Moreover, the exponential decay in the low-desorption regime was clearly observed in PDMS with Na [2] and K [57] even with violet desorbing light. On the contrary, no evidence of the change of desorption regime is found instead in paraffin in the case of Na, even with more than 1 W of 514 nm radiation [21].…”

“…In a more recent work [57], optical stabilization has been applied to an experiment on Electromagnetically Induced Transparency (EIT) [58] on K in PDMS coated pyrex cells. The experiment has been performed in Hanle configuration, where a narrow magneto-optic resonance is observed with degenerate Zeeman sublevels at zero magnetic field, thus allowing for high resolution measurement of small magnetic fields.…”

“…On the contrary, when the pump beam is circularly polarized, the amplitude of the crossover resonance is significantly enlarged. In order to investigate the role of the anti-relaxation coating on these phenomena in the SA spectrum, the experiment is performed also in presence of a supplemental flux of atoms produced by the Light-Induced Atomic Desorption (LIAD) [9][10] . It will be shown in the following that K atoms desorbed from the PDMS coating strongly improves the signal.…”
