All-metallic electrically gated 2H-TaSe2 thin-film switches and logic circuits

Abstract: We report the fabrication and performance of all-metallic three-terminal devices with tantalum diselenide thin-film conducting channels. For this proof-of-concept demonstration, the layers of 2H-TaSe 2 were exfoliated mechanically from single crystals grown by the chemical vapor transport method. Devices with nanometer-scale thicknesses exhibit strongly non-linear currentvoltage characteristics, unusual optical response, and electrical gating at room temperature. We have found that the drain-source current in … Show more

“…The control of crystal phases via temperature has been used in the chemical vapor transport method to obtain 1T and 2H phases in some bulk TMDs. [31][32][33] Our results thus suggest that temperature control is a key factor for obtaining different crystal phases in both monolayer and bulk TMDs.…”

“…The electronic properties of these 2D nanocrystals range from insulating to semiconducting, metallic and even superconducting, and can differ dramatically from bulk crystals 1 . The versatility of these materials is shown by the wide range of reported applications including: electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution 1 , opto- and spintronics 2 , electrodes and interconnects 3 4 , and electro-optical switch and data storage devices 5 .…”

“…Recent breakthroughs in the synthesis techniques of 2D layered materials have facilitated the exploration of materials systems that were challenging in the past [1][2][3]. Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) are a group of layered materials that has renewed interest due to their 2D confined structures [4,5].…”
