“…The few published examples [15][16][17][18] do not yet provide enough information to allow generalizations or provisions about the magnitude of the impact of using IL for transformations of ambident ions, nor about the mechanisms involved. As a starting point for systematic investigation of the reactions of ambident ions in IL media, patterns in the alkylation reactions of ambident ion -indole anion (IA) systems in IL have been explored closely in this paper.…”

“…Phosphoruscontaining ILs (phosphonium salts having different anions and imidazolium hexafluorophosphates) are of special importance [18]. However, successful examples of ILs applications as activating media for organophosphorus synthesis are rather scare and restricted to the Wittig-Horner [19], Arbuzov [20], and Kabachnik-Fields [21] reactions and the esterification of phosphonic(phosphinic) acids by triethyl(methyl) orthoacetate [22]. A few numbers of publications in this area may be explained by easy dealkylation of phosphorus esters observed in a variety of ILs [20] instead of desired reactions involving other functionalities in the molecules.…”

“…Among the numerous organic reactions performed in ionic liquids little attention is paid to transformations of ambident ions in ILs. A few published communications [18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26] signalize the increase in the reaction rates in ILs but do not allow us to foresee at present whether the selectivity of the reactions of ambident anions would change in the media of ILs as compared with that in molecular liquids.…”
